THE VALLEY OF THE SHADOW

Mick Stevens, New Yorker, July 23, 2012
"Though I Walk Through the Valley of the Shadow of Death." Thus begins the 23rd Psalm of the Jewish scriptures. This week we are invited to a living exegesis of this Psalm by Rabbi Harold Kushner, also the author of "When Bad Things Happen to Good People" and "The Lord Is My Shepherd."  The rabbi speaks of the nature of this journey into the shadow being one that started in green pastures and sunshine and then one finds one self in a world of consequence and danger.
Does this remind you of any other significant story in the ancient Hebrew scriptures?
What does the Rabbi warn against in the Valley of the Shadow?

"Thou Anointest My Head with Oil"
To what does this phrase refer to, according to Kushner ?

"My Cup Runneth Over."
Gratitude in Valley of the Shadow??

"And I Shall Dwell in the House of the Lord Forever."
No longer a passive encounter?
How do we assist others through shadow times?
